Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, June 25th, 2015

Write a scene with only sound and touch to describe things. Close your eyes for a few minutes and touch your keyboard, desk, chair. How do they feel under your fingers? How would you describe that on paper so we feel it and sense it as we read what you’ve written?

In THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA Teal’s instinct alerts her to the eagle before he lunges for her. What would you hear and sense before you saw something?

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, June 24th, 2015

I love a quote I received from Michael Neill.

“There is no stress in life – there is only stress in our thinking.”

If it helps you, grab it and live by it. If it doesn’t, find a quote that brightens your day or inspires you and remind yourself of it every morning when you wake up. Happy Wednesday! Liane x

Tuesday – Creative Writing Day

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015

Yo, guys. Freddie’s in the house.

You arrive at a party and you’ve had nothing to eat all day. Your stomach rumbles. You head over to the food. There’s a crowd and you can’t see anything but the smells are awesome.

Everyone in front of you gasps. A few plates smash on the floor. You go up on your toes but can’t see over all the heads. You use your hands to push two people apart. Your mouth drops open.

What’s happened? Over to you guys. Happy Monday! Freddie xx

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Friday, June 5th, 2015

Today let’s look at rhythm in the words. Whether you’re writing a song, a poem or a story, the rhythm of the words can make the difference between gripping the audience or just telling them something you want to say.

The best way to ensure your words have a good rhythm is to record them and listen. What sounds stilted or false? You’re looking for natural. Didn’t often sounds better than did not and the word that  is vastly overused. Write a few sentences and record them and see what you can tweak, delete and rearrange to enhance the rhythm of the story you’re telling. Prepare to be amazed :)

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015

For those of you who’ve read The Chronicles of Joya you know they know how to have fun on that planet.

Imagine you are one of your favourite characters in the book or a movie and notice how you stand, talk and think differently.

Have fun! Happy Wednesday! Liane x

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015

Yo, Freddie’s in the house. How’s it going, guys? Ready to get those creative juices flowing?

The sun is shining. You take a blanket into your garden and spread it over the grass. You lie on your back and soak up the rays. You fall asleep.

You wake up and lift your head. Your arms and legs won’t move.

What’s happened? Over to you. Happy Tuesday! Freddie xx
