Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

Hello everyone. Today I’m going to give you a tip my editor gave me for THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA which made the story so vivid for you.

The tip is … be specific.

Here are some non-specific descriptions:

The tall tree swayed in the breeze.

The short man couldn’t reach the handle.

The yellow sports car slowed at the lights.

Now let’s make these more specific, add a bit of oomph and see what difference it makes to seeing the images in our mind:

The thirty feet palm tree swayed in the breeze.

The pygmy stamped his foot. “I can’t reach the door handle!”

The lights turned red. The yellow Ferrari 911 screeched to a stop beside the mayor at the crossing.

Have fun. Happy writing! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

Oh my gosh, Teal here. How exciting. I’m back again. Did you have fun with your goals last Wednesday? I made a few tweaks to mine after I wrote the blog. I’m aiming high. I see myself on the Maya Council someday and flying my own rocket.

It’s all very well us hyper beings running around and getting things done. Sometimes we need to have a rest. I found out in Discovery this week if you take some time out to just contemplate, meditate for five minutes or have a nap, you’re recharged and raring to go. You can face any challenge.

I’m going for it. Are you with me?

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

Hey, man, I’m back. Freddie Maya sending you happy creative thoughts to get those juices flowing. Ready?

You’ve woken up on our planet. You’re sitting in the middle of a red sandy trail. You look around at the purple fields and rub your eyes. You must be dreaming. You pinch yourself and it hurts. Man, you’re really here. You stand up and brush the red sand from your trousers and then notice …

Over to you guys. Have fun up on our planet. When you’re feeling low ain’t no better place to go … the world of Joya. Sing it with me.

   Happy Tuesday, Freddie x

Yo, Freddie’s in the house. Happy Tuesday, guys. Ready to get those creative juices flowin’? Come on, then.

You fancy a piece of chocolate cake. You grab a slice and it’s sticky in your hand. You lift it to your nose and inhale and smell something not quite right.

   What happens next?

Over to you, guys. Laters, Freddie xx

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

What’s one of the best tips for writing? Write as you speak. If you copy the style of someone else you lose the flavour, the intense passion waiting in the wings of your subconscious to spring forth and surprise you.

Choose the best day of your life. Write about the experience and pour all your emotions on to the page. Don’t try to imitate an author or a style. Don’t try to impress or use flowery words. Write from the heart of you. That’s where your genius lies.

   Happy writing! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

Hi, it’s Teal again. How are you all? Great I hope! Today I thought we could look at goals.

What do you want to do? What goals do you want to achieve? These four steps can help you get there.

Step one: Write them down. Go on. Everything you want to get done.

Step two: See, feel and hear yourself when you’ve got it. So hear the praise, see the smiling faces, jump up and down at how excited you feel! Imagine you’ve reached them all right now.

Step three: Write down what you need to do to get there. Do you need to ask people for help? Enrol on a course? Invest in a book?

Step four: Write down all the obstacles that might get in your way. If you know what they are ahead of time, it’s easy to kick them out of the way and not be thrown by them.

Happy goal setting! Teal xxx

Tuesday – Creative Ideas Day

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014

Yo, Freddie’s in the house. In celebration of Liane’s dad, let’s get those creative juices flowing about a big gentle giant with a big laugh.

You meet this man and he towers over you with the kindest smile. You tell him your name and he laughs and laughs. Then he tells you why.

What happens next? Over to you, guys. Happy Tuesday! Liane x

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, August 14th, 2014

The senses are a phenomenal tool to use in writing. In THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA I loved using taste, touch, smell, sight and sound to transport the reader into the story.

Write a scene about a party utilising the senses. Use verbs which heighten the reader’s involvement in the story. Here are a few examples to start you off.

   The chocolate coated her tongue.

The fireworks exploded in green and red spirals in the sky.

Have fun. Happy Thursday! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, August 13th, 2014

Someone told me a wonderful saying …

Your mind is like a parachute. If you don’t open it, it won’t work.

Just for today give five minutes extra to opening up your parachute.

And if five minutes reading is all you can spare, spare it! Your mind will be eternally grateful.

Happy Wednesday! Liane x

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Hey, Freddie’s in the house. You miss me?  Well, it’s been a week already. Okay, this week I’m going to stretch your imaginations and bring a bit of fun to lighten up your day. Ready?

You step out onto a roof which is covered in a sea of pink and yellow scooters. When you take your next step ….

What happens next? I’m outta here. Laters, Freddie x
