Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, June 26th, 2014

What sort of stories do you write? Imagine you are one of your characters. What sort of story would he write? Imagine he has to use you as one of the main characters. What situations would he place you in? What would he think of you?

This is a fun way to stretch your imagination and writing beyond your normal habits. Write a page. Have fun. Happy Thursday! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

What are you doing this week for fun? If you aren’t, think of one thing your inner child would love to do and make time to do it. You’ll feel great. It will give you extra fuel for the rest of your week and help you smile more and that’s always a good thing. ;)

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

In THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA I wanted to show more rather than tell the reader. So instead of writing, she was happy  I wrote, a smile spread across her face.  She jumped up and down and ran around in circles.

Show your readers instead of telling them. Pick a few sentences from your favourite book where the author tells you what happened and rewrite those pieces by showing the reader instead. Have fun.

  Happy writing! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Watch a feel-good film that makes your heart sing. Recommend one to someone. You’ll feel great and so will they. Some of my favourite feel-good films are Kung Fu Panda, Secretariat, Akeelah and the Bee, Invictus.

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

So you’ve written your story and you love it. How do you manage to be objective when you go back and edit it? Be someone else.

Imagine the book is written by your least favourite author and read it. Is it still as good?

Now read the book and imagine it is written by someone you don’t like. What needs to be changed?

If you tackle editing like a huge task, it will be. Imagine it’s like skipping down the street. Set the alarm for five minutes and edit away as quickly as you can. Have your mind doing different tasks so you stretch your capabilities. See what a difference it makes.

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

One of the best ways to help yourself and recharge is to feed your soul. How do you do it? I like this:

Sit back for a few minutes and just relax with your eyes closed. Let the thoughts come and go. Breathe deeply and focus on a colour to warm through your body. Enjoy the colour, allow it to fill you up and recharge you. When you’re ready open your eyes.

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

Hey, guys. Freddie’s in the house. Ready to get those creative juices flowing?

You’re walking your dog and he begins to limp. You stop, kneel down to check its paw and gasp.

Why? What happens next? Over to you, guys. Happy Tuesday. Freddie xx

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

Here’s a fun tip to get your subconscious working in different ways to provide surprising results both in content and quality.

Start your story at the end. Write the last line or the last paragraph. Close your eyes and imagine the scene. Write it down.

Then ask yourself who are these people? How did they meet? What if this ending happened because of a fight or a concert or a mistake? Allow different ideas to come to you and write a couple of different opening paragraphs. Choose one and then write your middle.

Have fun. Happy Thursday! Liane x
