Make sure you send your manuscript to agents and publishers only when you know it’s the best it can be. If you aren’t confident about your grammar, pay someone to check it for you. If you take the time and money to invest in an editor, you’ll bring out the best in your writing. The editor can make pointers and tips to show you where you need to strengthen your manuscript.
I’ve worked with both The Editorial Department and Cornerstones and both helped me shape THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA.
Know the rules of sending off a submission: No paperclips, no plastic wallets, enclose an SAE, and ensure you read the agent or publisher’s requirement’s on their website. Be professional and respectful. They’re busy people who you hope to be working with in the future.

Thank you for all your wonderful emails about how much you love THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA.
One of the best ways we can help ourselves is by the way we think. If we think bad thoughts, life can stink. If we think good thoughts, it can feel good.
So just for today, see the funny side in everything. If someone is shouting at you, imagine they have a voice like Donald Duck. If someone hurts you, imagine you’re Kung Fu Panda and the pain just bounces off your belly and makes you giggle. Remember, you control your life so choose to have fun with it today.

Many authors and editors will tell you to write what you know. To make it fun for you and the reader, write about something you know and add some fiction to it. Use your experience of riding a bike and add a crazy character who’s forgotten how to or every time he gets on it the bike goes in reverse.
If you’re writing fiction, chances are you haven’t done everything your characters have. If I’d done everything the characters in THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA have done, I’d still be up there enjoying myself or recovering from exhaustion. Hee hee.
So how do you get a good mix?
Use your experience and flavour it up with a twist of fiction. Have fun and experiment.

Oh my gosh, Teal here. Liane is so great letting me sneak on here again.

Close your eyes and feel the energy surging through your veins. Smile and let that smile fill your face. Straighten your back and congratulate yourself. Why? Hello everyone. Today I’m going to give you a tip my editor gave me for THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA which made the story so vivid for you.
The tip is … be specific.
Here are some non-specific descriptions:
The tall tree swayed in the breeze.
The short man couldn’t reach the handle.
The yellow sports car slowed at the lights.
Now let’s make these more specific, add a bit of oomph and see what difference it makes to seeing the images in our mind:
The thirty feet palm tree swayed in the breeze.
The pygmy stamped his foot. “I can’t reach the door handle!”
The lights turned red. The yellow Ferrari 911 screeched to a stop beside the mayor.

Oh my gosh, Teal here. How exciting. I’m back again. Did you have fun with your goals last Wednesday? I made a few tweaks to mine after I wrote the blog. I’m aiming high. I see myself on the Maya Council someday, fly my own rocket ….
It’s all very well us hyper beings running around and getting things done. Sometimes we need to have a rest. Well I forget alot of the time. I found out in Discovery this week if you take some time out to just contemplate, meditate for five minutes or have a nap, you’re recharged and raring to go. You can face any challenge.
I’m going for it.
