Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

When was the last time you did something for your soul? when was the last time you laughed out loud? Wrote a poem? Made music? Skipped down the street? Painted a picture? Walked in nature?

Which of these things, or something else, would bring a smile on the inside? Try a few and have fun. Go on, feed your soul. I’m off to do some finger painting :)

Tuesday – Creative Writing Day

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Yo, guys. Freddie’s in the house.

You arrive at a barecue and you’ve had nothing to eat all day. Your stomach rumbles. You head over to the food. There’s a crowd and you can’t see anything but the smells are awesome.

Everyone in front of you gasps, a few plates fall on the grass. You go up on your toes but can’t see over all the heads. You use your hands to push two people apart. Your mouth drops open.

What’s happened? Over to you guys. Happy Monday! Freddie xx

Monday – Fun and Laughter Day

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Hey, everyone! Today’s joke is from Steve in Fareham.

Every night, Rick would buy a six pack, bring it home, and drink it while he watched TV. One night, as he finished his last beer, the doorbell rang. He stumbled to the door and found a six-foot cockroach standing there. The bug grabbed him by the collar, threw him across the room, and left.

The next night, after he finished his 3rd beer, the doorbell rang. He walked to the door and found the same six-foot cockroach standing there. The big bug punched him in the stomach, then left.

The next night, after he finished his 1st beer, the doorbell rang again. The same six-foot cockroach was standing there. This time Rick was kneed in the groin and hit behind the ear as he doubled over in pain. Then the big bug left.

The fourth night Rick didn’t drink at all. The doorbell rang. The cockroach was standing there. The bug beat him and left him in a heap on the living room floor.

The following day, Rick went to see his doctor. He explained the events of the preceding four nights. ”What can I do?” he pleaded. “Not much,” the doctor replied. “There’s just a nasty bug going around.”

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Last week we looked at writing a story with the senses. Write a scene with only sound and touch to describe things. Close your eyes for a few minutes and touch your keyboard, desk, chair. How do they feel under your fingers? How would you describe that on paper?

In THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA Teal’s instinct alerts her to the eagle before he lunges for her. What might she have heard? What do you hear before you see it?

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

For those of you who’ve read The Chronicles of Joya you know it’s a feel good book. It may be tense with a bit of torture, yet you can’t read it without a smile. They know how to have fun on that planet.

Just for today imagine you are one of your favourite characters in the book and notice how you stand, talk and think differently. I guarantee you’ll have more smiles.

Have fun! Happy Wednesday! Liane x

Monday – Fun and Laughter Day

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Today’s joke is from John in Suffolk. Thanks, John.

The big boss invites his staff to his house one Sunday. They are shocked to see he has a pool filled with crocodiles.

“If anyone is brave enough to swim in there, I’ll give them anything they want,” he said.

He continued with his tour of the house and heard a splash. The financial director was splashing in the pool, fighting for his life and dodging crocodiles. He pulled himself out just as a crocodile snapped at his shoes.

The boss said, “You’re brave. Tell me what you want.”

The financial director spat out some water and said, ”You can tell me who the heck pushed me in the pool!”

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Using the senses in a story brings it alive. In THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA we taste and smell Hobo’s hot chocolate, we see the red paths snaking through the purple fields, hear the roar of Darcy’s motorbike.

Write a story about a vampire, a stone or a computer. Your character makes a discovery through only two senses – smell and taste. Allow the reader to feel he is using his senses as he reads it. Why can’t you use sight? Is the character in the story blind, blindfolded, in a dark room or a forest?

Have fun. Happy Thursday! Liane x
