Friday – Pat on the Back Day

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Friday again. Time to tell you what I’ve been up to. Well I’ve had a phenomenal week.

THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA has been sent off to Planeta who want to see it to consider publishing it in Spanish. Yippee.

I’ve been researching for a new book which has been enlightening and delicious.

Received a  superb edit from another book I’ve written.

I’ve booked in to visit Hollybrook School.

I’ve booked in to visit Shirley Warren Primary School.

   I’ve sent an article off.

I’ve booked the car hire for the tour.

So I’m patting myself on the back for a week well done. What have you been up to this week? You have? Well done. Give yourself a pat on the back.

   Happy Friday! Liane x

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

When I was writing THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA, I became blocked on the rewrite. Whether writing a letter, a scene or a manuscript we can all face a block at some time. The difficult thing is overcoming it. If we discover the reason why we’re blocked, we can find the solution. Here are some reasons you may be blocked and possible solutions.

   1. You’re trying too hard. The words aren’t coming because the story or letter needs to take another direction. List three different ways your story or letter could go. Now write a few paragraphs with each scenario.

   2. Your conscious mind is too active. With your mind full of chatter it’s difficult for your subconscious to come forward with the ideas. Close your eyes and count your breaths. If your mind chatters, accept it and then allow it to fall away. Continue to count your breaths, relax your shoulders and enjoy the peaceful state.

   Happy writing! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Hey, everyone. How are you? Today try something different. Have a go at juggling. I don’t mean with balls or skittles although if you want to go for it. I mean juggle your tasks and your time.

So if you’re reading one book, pick up two more. Set an alarm for twenty minutes and start reading one of the three. When the alarm goes off set it for another twenty minutes and pick up the second book. Read the third book for the last twenty minutes. You’ll be surprised how the different styles and reading them in snippets give your brain a boost.

And for all you writers out there, you’ll better understand and get a feel for those parts of a book that grip you, bore you and create emotional reaction.

Have fun. Happy Wednesday! Liane x

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Yo, yo, yo. Freddie’s in the house. Great to hear you’re loving my story ideas. Here’s another one to get those ideas flowing.

You’ve stayed up late. You’re tired. You shuffle to the bathroom, pick up your toothbrush and grab the toothpaste. You glance up at your reflection. You blink. No way. You look again and whether you want to believe it or not, it’s true. You drop the toothbrush in the sink.

What’s happened? Over to you, guys. Happy writing and happy Tuesday! Freddie xx

Monday – Fun and Laughter Day

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Today’s jokes are from Michelle in Leeds.

A man walks into a bar and asks for a pint of lager and a packet of helicopter crisps.    “Sorry,” the barman says, “we don’t have any helicoper crisps, we only have plane.”

Two packets of crisps were walking along the road. A passing car stopped and the driver asked if they would like a lift.    “No thanks,” the crisps said, “we’re Walkers.”

Have a great day. Liane x

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Nothing allows your writing to shine more than writing about something you’re passionate about. Why?

Because emotions pull the reader on to the page.

So what are you passionate about? Who are you passionate about? Who do you believe in? Who inspires you, helps you, or drives you crazy?

Now write a paragraph from the heart about that subject or person or animal or place. Throw those words on the page and don’t worry about corrections until afterwards. Just allow those words to spew from your mind and out of your fingers. Feel the emotions as you write and enjoy the process.

Have fun. Happy Thursday! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Hi everyone! Today’s for all my fellow workaholics. How can we best help ourselves? Take some time off!

I haven’t had two days off together for over six months which may sound a little crazy to some people. The scary thing is because I’m a workaholic it doesn’t sound scary to me. And because I love what I do I can even smile about it.

However, after a few important people in my life told me I needed some time off, I decided to actually listen! It took a while though. I can be stubborn.

It wasn’t easy. I had to hide the computer. When I relaxed into the break I realised nothing is that big a deal and it felt wonderful.

I had three days of relaxing and reading – my absolute favourite hobby in the whole world – played tennis, watched films. I even stayed up late which I haven’t done for soooooooooo long. My body was screaming for a rest and in truth it could do with a whole week so I may – shock, horror – take next weekend off too. We’ll see. One step at a time. :)

So to all you crazies like me, have a rest. Happy Wednesday. Liane x

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Yo, guys. Freddie’s in the house. Ready to let those creative juices flow, huh?

You’re in the Sunday league football team. You’ve got an away game. It’s in a little village and the pitch is more yellow than green. The game starts and two minutes in you line up a goal. Your heart beats. You watch your mate’s boot kick the ball just as his other foot disappears into the pitch. He looks around, screams for help, but everyone’s sinking. At least your team is.

What happens next? Over to you, guys. Happy Tuesday! Freddie xx

Monday – Fun and Laughter Day

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Hello! Today’s jokes are from Josie in Colchester.

   Why do vampires use mouthwash?

   To stop bat breath.

Why do ducks look so sad in the mouth?

Because when they preen their feathers they get down in the mouth.

Thanks, Josie. Happy Monday! Liane x
