Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Do you need to write a story and don’t know where to start? Then sit down and interview your main character. When I sent THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA off for its first edit my editor said the baddie wasn’t bad enough. (What can I say? I liked him.) She suggested I pretend to go out to dinner with him and find out how bad he could be. It was great. I found the darkness lurking beneath him. It worked for me. Give it a go and have fun, won’t you?

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Have a quick review of what you loved about this year and ask yourself why. Ask yourelf what you didn’t enjoy and why. Now think of how you can bring more of the things you loved into your life and less of the things you didn’t. Ask yourself how you can react differently to the not so great things to have a better year in 2010.

For example I loved touring with THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA. I didn’t love that it took me so long to get the first draft of the sequel written. How can I react differently when I write the third book in the series? I can take a few days off to recharge the batteries, and know that if I’m going to kill a favourite character to know it’s for the good of the book and not fight the story.

Have fun.

Happy Wednesday! Liane x

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Hey! Freddie’s in the house. What’s happenin’, guys? Ready to get those creative juices going? Okay I’ll start you off.

You wake up, grin. It’s your birthday. You leap out of bed and rush out of your room. Silence. You check the clock. Where is everyone? You check the house. Empty.

You scan the table for a present, a card maybe. Nothing. You hang your head, walk over to the front door. You open it and your jaw drops open.

Why? What’s out there? Who’s out there? Over to you, guys. Happy Tuesday! Freddie xx

Monday – Fun and Laughter Day

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Enjoy today´s jokes from Rick in Bradford.

My brother is with the F.B.I. They finally tracked him down.

A poor man walks into a pet shop. He walks up to the counter.

“Have you got any dogs going cheap?

“No,” the assistant replies. “All our dogs go woof.”

Friday – Pat on the Back Day

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Friday again! What a week. Well time for me to check in with you guys and tell you what I’ve been up to. Merry Christmas to you all! I’ve been working on the character development of a protagonist in yet another new book. I have more research items coming to me in January. Exciting.

I’ve finished the first draft of the second book in THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA series. Yeeha! Oh my gosh, did I not want to leave them or what? It was so tense and exciting I so love the characters.

I’ll be starting book 3 in January along with finishing a few others!

I’ve written the synopsis for THE CHRONICLES OF JOYA book 3. Exciting.

I’ve finished the first draft of the first in a series of three books. Two of the characters make me grin from ear ear even though the book’s a bit scary.

I’ve read a fantastic book by Rachael Stock called The Insider’s Guide to Getting Your Book Published. It’s full of great info, she has a great sense of humour and it’s brilliant to be able to see and understand things from the publishers’ side of things. Check it out. :)

So I’m patting myself on the back for a week well done. What have you been up to this week? You have? Well done! Give yourself a pat on the back. And remember, if you want your joke to appear on Monday’s blog, email me by tomorrow. Happy Friday! Liane x

Thursday – Writing Tips Day

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

It’s nearly Christmas. How would your character talk about Christmas? Does he celebrate it? Think about what your character looks like, what background he comes from, how he walks. All of these things give you an idea of how he would speak.

A gang member isn´t likely to say, “Would you mind awfully passing the salt, darling?” And nor is a baroness likely to say, “Chuck a cracker over ´ere, luv.”

Does your character have a word he uses alot? Does he speak in clipped sentences, or ramble on? Dialogue can tell us alot about a character’s personality. Listen to people around you. Do they have favourite words? Which words do they drop in their natural speech? Have fun making your characters real.

   Happy Thursday! Liane x

Wednesday – Help Yourself Day

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Hey, everyone. It’s Teal! First of all, thank you so much for all  my birthday messages on Monday. :)  I had a great birthday, thank you!

So how are things down on Earth? Busy, busy, busy?

Do you get stressed in the morning rushing around to get ready for school or work? Do you get stressed when you have exams or problems to deal with in your day?

Just for today think of all the things you are so lucky to smile about … your health, the fact you can smile, your body, your soul. And every time stress seeps into your day, hold out your hand, put a smile on your face and say to yourself “Too blessed to be stressed.”

I feel better just writing it! I’m going for it. “Too blessed to be stressed.” How about you? Happy Wednesday! Teal. xxx

Tuesday – Creative Flow and Ideas Day

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Yo, yo, yo. Freddie’s in the house. How you guys doing? Let’s get creative.

You open up your laptop and switch it on. It begins to whir. You wait a few minutes. The screen stays blank. You tap a few keys. Nothing. You know you shouldn’t … but you do. You press control+alt+delete. The screen flashes and pops. Your eyes widen. A blurry image appears on the screen. You narrow your eyes. It’s a person. The image becomes stronger. You press a key and gasp.

Why? What’s happened? Who is it? Over to you, guys. Happy Tuesday! Freddie xx
